Our Story

About Us:

The Strive for Five Foundation was established in 2022 in honor of one of Harford County's most admired business owners, Diane Mahaffey.  Di was a firm believer of doing five random acts of kindness each and every day.  Those who knew her saw her live out her belief and dedication to the people around her, whether she knew them for years or had just met them.  Di’s selfless dedication to donate her own money and time to many organizations and charities in need, encouraged and inspired many to do the same.  With a successful career spanning over 30 years and always fostering a strong sense of community, Di was a real estate agent, Broker and founder of a thriving brokerage in Bel Air, Maryland. With her contagious smile, kind personality and love for people, she was known as "The Real Mayor of Bel Air.”  In early 2021, Di was diagnosed with cancer. She fought bravely, constantly smiling and thinking of others. We lost Di in March 2022, but her legacy of “five good deeds a day” will continue on with the Strive for Five Foundation.

Today, the founding members of the Foundation are continuing her legacy of philanthropic good deeds. The Foundation raises money through community fundraising events to make grants and contributions to allow volunteers to have hands-on participation throughout Harford County, Maryland.
